Family Stress Center Volunteer Opportunities

Family Stress Center relies on volunteers to work closely with our staff to provide the services that strengthen families and bring awareness to the issues of child abuse and neglect.  Whether you choose a long-term commitment or a one-day project, a leadership role or direct service with clients, daytime or weekend activity, your skills and efforts can help us achieve safe and nurturing environments for children and families.

Board of Directors

Help guide the Family Stress Center's mission by serving as a member of the Board of Directors to help raise funds, assist in strategic planning and advocate support and awareness for the agency in the local community.

Please contact Jennifer Stasch, at 925-827-0212, Ex. 107, for more information and to receive an application.

A sampling of our volunteer opportunities include:

Group Projects -- Can accommodate 3 or more people and children are welcome for many of the activities
  • Landscaping -- Trim small bushes, weed garden, and freshen general outside appearance at Concord and Antioch sites.

  • Light Maintenance -- Freshen interior portions of building, organize child play therapy rooms, paint interior portions of the building in Antioch or Concord.
Individual Opportunities -- Rewarding opportunities to work closely with staff in providing services to clients.  Some opportunities can even be adapted so that you can volunteer from your home.
  • Child Care -- Provide structured child care activities for children whose parents are participating in Parent Education classes, Support Group Meetings, and the Grandparent/Kinship Caregivers Support Groups and counseling and anger management workshops.

  • Child Safety Program -- Provide workshops in local schools to help children identify and deal with potentially dangerous sexual, physical and emotional assault.

  • Parent Education Facilitators -- Facilitate 10-week parent education classes throughout the county, with extensive training from staff. Learn more about free facilitator training

  • Clerical Support -- Work with individual staff members on a variety of clerical needs including filing, accounting, updating data bases, updating and maintaining media lists and press relations.

  • Parent Aide -- The Volunteer Parent Aide will transport children to therapy and/or medical appointments.

  • Youth and Young Adult Program -- Tutors, Mentors and Program Leaders are needed to help serve youths 14-20 that are not in school and are unemployed.

Special Skills -- If you are an attorney, Notary, or CPA, your skills and volunteerism are always welcome and appreciated.

We can design many of these opportunities to fit your needs and availability.  You can be sure that, as a volunteer with Family Stress Center, you become a valued member of an energetic team to help children -- and adults -- live in happy and safe families.
