Family Stress Center Job Announcement

POSITION TITLE: Dare to be You Parent /Facilitator

REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Dare to be You Parent Trainer/Facilitator is responsible for assisting in weekly family workshops. Dare to be You is a primary prevention program for children ages 3 to 6 and their families. The Program has been proven to dramatically improve parent and child resiliency factors, particularly in the areas of communication, problem-solving, self-esteem, and family skills, significantly lowering the risk of future substance abuse and other high-risk activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

     1. A.A. degree in counseling or related field, (or current FSC employee).

     2. Experience in adult education, parenting and child development theories.

     3. Experience working with at-risk families.

     4. Experience in Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug prevention programs.

     5. Available to work late afternoons and/or evening hours throughout Contra Costa County.

     6. Reliable transportation to East, West & Central county locations.

     7. Ability to facilitate groups and engage parent in role-playing and exercises.

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

     1. B.A. degree in counseling or education

     2. Knowledge of Contra Costa County resources for families at-risk.

     3. Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.
 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

     1. Conduct weekly family workshops and Dare to be You reinforcing workshops.

     2. Conduct and organize Community Service Workshops.

     3. Coordinate with child program staff.

     4. Assist with family and parent recruitment. Organize and prepare application packets.

     5. Maintain communication with Site Coordinator and other staff.

     6. Maintain record and submit reports as requested by Site Coordinator.

     7. Provide families with linkages to other needed services.

     8. Work collaboratively with Head Start staff.

     9. Other duties as assigned.

HOURS: 2-6 hours/week.

Salary: $12.50 per hour 1st 12 weeks

Up to $14.50 after 12 week review *
