JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Therapeutic Mentor
(Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist)
REPORTS TO: Mentor Program
Director
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Mentor Program strives to connect at-risk
youth with adult Therapeutic Mentors (Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist)
who will serve as a positive role model, provide support and assistance, and
engage the child in enriching community-based experiences. The overarching goal
of our program is assist disadvantaged youth develop coping skills in order to
navigate some of the most challenging life circumstances.
DEFINITION OF POSITION: Family Stress Center in Concord is
seeking to hire Therapeutic Mentors (Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist)
for positions in various Contra Costa County locations that include West
(Richmond, Hercules, Rodeo), East (Pittsburg, Oakley, Bethel Island, Antioch)
and Central (Concord, Pleasant Hill, Martinez) regions. This position will work
with SED (seriously emotionally disturbed) children and adolescents between the
ages of 6-18 who are in need of Therapeutic Mentoring.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
DUTIES INCLUDE:

Intensive Therapeutic Mentoring which includes
establishing relationships with youth and engaging them
in skill building activities: (e.g.
Increasing impulse control, building socialization skills, delayed
gratification, exploring academic pursuits and enhance self esteem.)

Identify activities for each child assigned and
locate appropriate activities in the community

Develop and implement treatment plans

Write accurate progress
notes in a timely manner

Follow-up on service and program inquiries

Collaborate with social workers, care givers, teachers,
wraparound facilitators, and school psychologists
-
Attend wrap-around meetings, staff meetings, and
in-service trainings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- AA degree in a Human Services Profession (Social Work, Psychology,
Sociology, Criminal Justice, Education, Human Development, etc.).
- Experience working with children and adolescents.
- Strong writing capabilities, ability to work independently, and manage
stress effectively.
- Must have a car with insurance and an excellent driving record.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/MA in a Human Services Profession.
- Experience working with SED (seriously emotionally disturbed) children and
adolescents.
- Knowledge of child development models, DSM IV diagnoses, crisis
intervention and behavior management techniques.
- SALARY: $14-17 hourly DOE
